Shoe Factory Tour

Last week we toured the San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) shoe factory. For those of you who don't know, SAS is a shoe brand. The shoes are supposed to be really comfy, but they're on the pricey side. Actually, my dad owns a few pairs of SAS shoes and loves them.

We went with KL, KT, and E. Of course, all the kids came along, so it was a big outing since we had 10 babies and kids total. Most of the info from the shoe tour went over the kids' heads, but it was really all about the entire experience. First we got to ride a small bus from the general store (where we started) to the 2 factories. The kids loved getting on and off the bus. Then after the tour, the nice SAS people provided free cookies, popcorn, drinks, and goody bags for the kids. After we ate our snacks, we stuck around and explored the general store (which is like a bigger version of the stores at Cracker Barrel) and the grounds. They had old cars, old gas stations, and carriages all over. Elina and M had so much fun just looking at everything.

I thought the tour was really interesting. I liked seeing how the shoes were all handmade. It was so impressive how quickly the people in there could work a sewing machine. Amazing. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take pictures in the factories (because it's top secret information), but it was still fun. The tour was so fun I'm going to convince my dad to take the tour once they start up again in the fall. I think he'd enjoy it more than we did since he actually owns some of their shoes.
