First Tooth

It finally happened!  Elina lost her first tooth!!  (But, boy, was it traumatizing to watch...)

The last time we went to the dentist, they told us that Elina's bottom adult tooth was going to come out before her baby tooth was even ready to be pulled out because her baby tooth still had super-long roots.  The dentist told us that Elina would have 2 rows of teeth for a little while because of this...but that it was totally normal and nothing to fear because the tongue will gradually push the adult tooth into the right spot.  So this is what Elina looked like beforehand--

Her baby tooth has been getting looser and looser...but Elina was starting to dread having her tooth pulled out. It got to the point that her gum was hurting when she ate and when we wiggled her loose tooth, it would bleed. So it was inevitable that we had to pull it on Tuesday night.  Elina was scared and didn't care about the Tooth Fairy or her money!  She was already crying when B sat her on the bathroom counter.  Check it out--

Luckily, it was SO loose that B just flicked it forward in one swift move and the tooth came right out.  Elina claims that it hurt SOOOO much.  She was not a happy camper right after the whole thing.  Look at that sadness!

We gave her a popsicle to help a little with the pain and then she was in a better mood.

So this was the "after" picture--

And by the next day, it looked totally fine...it's like the adult tooth is already filling in the space--

We didn't put Elina's tooth under her pillow that night though because Elina was dying to take it to school to show her teachers and friends.  So we let her take it to school in a little ziploc.  She seriously told everyone about her tooth!  Mrs. V also let Elina talk about it and show it off during their Morning Meeting.

That night we put the tooth under her pillow.  Elina told me that she wanted to keep her tooth and all her subsequent teeth.  I told her that we could write the Tooth Fairy a letter to see if she'd bring Elina's teeth back to her when Elina was older and more responsible.  So the Tooth Fairy left her a note saying that she would keep all of Elina's teeth safe and bring them back to her when she was older.  Elina felt so much better after that!  Elina also got a one dollar bill from the Tooth Fairy, which she was pretty excited about!  Now Eli wants to write the Tooth Fairy a letter to tell her take one of his teeth.  Awwwww....I thought that was so cute!

Elina's definitely growing up!  I just hope there aren't this many tears with every single tooth...
