Of course we kicked off the Thanksgiving season with the Discovery School Harvest Dance. It's our 4th and final time with this performance.
Eulee was definitely one of the loudest singers and totally enjoyed the limelight!
The weekend before Thanksgiving, Agong and Ama had to come in to watch the kids because Elina went on a youth group retreat and then B and I attended a marriage retreat. The marriage retreat was in town, but we had to be gone Friday night, Saturday all day, and Sunday morning, so we needed help from the grandparents. Luckily, Aunt A also visited that same weekend, so the kids definitely had tons of fun without us. They went to see Zoo Lights and spent a lot of Agong's money. Ha!
Our marriage retreat was great...just a refresher on how to love and treat one another. It's amazing how I can forget simple things when I'm so busy with "kid stuff." It was nice to focus on each other.
We had some amusing thankful/not thankful things this year too. Each year we fill out a card with something we were thankful for and something we weren't thankful for over the past year. Usually the "unthankful" thing is something funny. One person reads out all the cards and everyone has to guess who wrote it. This year Evie got to do it.
Elina: pillows
Eli: our house
Evie: this big feast
Eulee: cousin A
B: family, food, health, and relaxation
W: weekends and school breaks
J: safely bringing a baby into the world
V: J not being too mean during birth
Agong: the #6 grandkid
Ama: all children healthy and safe
Here were things we weren't thankful for--
Elina: poachers (she said, "I don't like it when animals are killed." What???)
Eli: death (okaaayyyyy)
Evie: sickness
Eulee: throwing up (because she just got over a stomach bug)
B: busy schedules
W: disgusting kid germs on every surface in every place (again, because Eulee just got over the stomach bug)
J: acid reflux
V: Baby G's projectile farts (TMI, V!)
Agong: costs are high, time is gone fast, income is getting low (wow...)
Ama: losing my brother (my uncle past away recently...that was a sad one to read)
Ok...maybe the "unthankful" things aren't really THAT funny. They're just more REAL.
To end Agong and Ama's visit, we took them on the Toyota plant tour. It was our first time as well and it was SO cool. Eli was blown away by the assembly line and all the parts and the robots. Of course we don't have pictures of the inside of the plant...but we still had fun learning all about the Toyota Tundra trucks.
Our little family also went to Garner State Park for a whole day to hike and fish. (We were supposed to camp there a few weeks earlier, but it had gotten too cold so we had to cancel.) That whole area is just beautiful and the river is so clear. The hiking was rocky and fun! We didn't catch any fish, but Eulee learned to cast better so I think we have another fisherman on our hands. All in all, a relaxing day on the Frio River!
We actually drove to Houston on Thanksgiving Day. My friend from college (BM) was in town with his family so we had to go meet up with them. They have 2 kids Eli and Evie's age and we haven't seen them in 2 years...it was such a fun reunion! We spent the day at the zoo together playing and catching up. The kids all got along really well. The Houston Zoo is really amazing. Their primate area is huge and unique. They actually had a lot of orangutans, which I've never seen in real life. (I've only seen them in "Planet of the Apes"...they are SO interesting to look at!) It was a fun day for sure. We sure hope we can see more of BM and his family because we always have a good time together! Of course we had to end our trip with some bubble tea, shaved ice, real Korean food, and some 85C Bakery. I love Houston!
This was certainly a different Thanksgiving Break for us. A lot of on-the-go stuff, but all fun. I'm definitely thankful the winter break is right around the corner! I'm going to need the rest! We are all so thankful for family and friends!
