Dad 'N Me Campout 2012

The kids were so excited to be able to attend Dad 'N Me Campout this year!  Remember, last year we all got a stomach bug and couldn't go??  Well, this year we all stayed healthy and B and the kids made it out to the campout.

Every year the 1st grade class designs the Dad 'N Me Campout shirts, so this is what Elina's class drew for it this year.  Can you guess which parts Elina drew?

She drew the dad and kid (her and B) roasting marshmallows, the tree with the sleeping bird in it, and the firefly in the sky.  Way cute, right??

Needless to say, the kids had a blast at the campout!  They got there in the late morning on Saturday and swam in the pool for 2 whole hours.

Elina was actually jumping into the pool without a lifejacket and then swimming back to the edge of the pool.  I never thought this day would come!!  We still had Eli in a lifejacket, but he had tons of fun as well.
Then the kids went canoeing with B.
The kids caught a beautiful katydid, some grasshoppers, and 2 black beetles.
(They brought them home and one of the beetles ended up eating all the rest of the insects.  So sad!)

After that, they had dinner and made s'mores.
Elina is seriously a marshmallow junkie.  B said that she couldn't stop eating them....just like her daddy.

I love this picture because Elina doesn't even care about taking a picture...she just cares about getting the marshmallow in her mouth!! 


Unfortunately, on Saturday night huge thunderstorms came in to Central Texas.  There was rain, thunder, and lightning for most of the night.  I mean, I was inside a house and I couldn't sleep at all, so I couldn't imagine how the kids fared out there.  In reality, Eli didn't wake up once from the storms.  He was so tired from the day, that he immediately passed out in the tent and almost didn't move the entire night.  Elina, on the other hand, woke up from the storm and had lots of trouble sleeping.  I heard a lot of kids had a sleepless night that night.

The next morning, it was still raining, so everyone had to go home because things just got too muddy.  They totally missed out on fishing and a fossil hike, so they were a bit sad....

And that's when A's dad decided that he and B should take the kids back to the same place the following weekend.  So this past weekend, the kids went back to the same place for a whole day's worth of fun.  (I just love that they all wore the same t-shirt so that they look like a team!  Love it!)

They did the fossil hike and came home with TONS of fossils.

They also did some fishing, but didn't catch anything.  After some dinner, they ended the trip with more s'mores.

B and Elina must've really gotten into the s'mores because they both came home with marshmallows in their hair!  Like father, like daughter!

Aren't these dads the best?!?  What a fun trip!
