Volcanoes

This past week Elina's class concluded their unit on volcanoes.  Elina has had a fun time learning about volcanoes and we've learned a lot from her as well.  Last week, each child picked out a volcano to research and present to the class.  Elina picked out Mt. Tambora in Indonesia.  Elina had to fill out a fact sheet, make a poster, and draw a picture of her volcano.

Then we practiced what she was going to say to the class.  It was cute because she wanted to talk about more than what was on the fact sheet.  And we were impressed with how much information she remembered!

She did a lot of talking-while-standing-with-her-back-the-to-class, but overall, she did wonderfully!

And at the end she loved fielding questions and comments...look at how excited she is to call on someone!

Over the course of 2 weeks, the class made a volcano (out of paper mache and a pvc pipe) and painted the entire volcano.  The name of the class volcano was Mt. Discovery.  Then to celebrate the end of the unit, Mt. Discovery erupted at 1:50pm on Friday, 10/28/11.  It was a lot of fun to watch and the kids loved every minute of it.  Just look at the anticipation on Elina's face!

We love learning about volcanoes!!
