Lots of Events Before the Holiday Break

I feel like December is just the craziest time of year...with the holidays, class parties, projects, recitals.  Then with Eli's birthday on top of all that, I barely survive this month.  Here were a few events that kept us WAY TOO busy before school finally let out--

1. ELINA'S SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

Every month Elina's school has an assembly that honors a certain charater trait.  One specific grade is in charge of all the skits that talk about this character trait.  Then all the teachers pick a couple of students from their class who exhibit this trait.  December's trait was trustworthiness and Elina got chosen!  We were so excited about it!  The 5th grade (not Elina's grade) was in charge of all the skits.  Oh, man...the skits.  We had to sit through 45 minutes of skits at 7:45am with all of our children.  It was definitely not my favorite activity.  =)  Finally they were about to announce the students who got chosen...and Eulee says that she has to go potty!  So B took Eulee and Evie to the potty...and totally MISSED Elina being called to stand up!!  It was the saddest thing.  He paid his dues by sitting through those skits...and didn't even get to reap the rewards!  Wow.  Talk about Murphy's Law.  But we were still very excited for Elina!  The kids have no idea they are being selected, so it's a total surprise!  It was awesome (except for B...what a great dad...I think I would have just had Eulee pee in her pants.  Seriously.)!

2. WINTER PIANO FESTIVAL

Eli and Elina played holiday songs at the mall again this year.  They did a great job!

3. EVIE'S DANCE RECITAL

Evie had an informal Christmas dance recital in the studio.  It was so very cute to watch her dance!   We've been watching her practice for a while now and Eulee totally knows some of the moves.  She's definitely going to have to take dance as well.  Look at her!
4. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

We went on our annual trip to see Christmas lights at Windcrest.  We learned our lesson last year and did NOT go on a weekend night.  It was a nightmare last year.  So we went on a quiet Monday and it was the best!  Eulee was so into it this year since she's older.  She kept saying, "Over there!  Lights! Look!  Santa!  Frosty!"  So fun!

5. 1ST GRADE CAROLING

Eli's class went around the school singing Christmas carols 2 mornings in a row right before break.  The music teacher asked B to accompany the kids with his guitar!  Eli was so excited to have his dad join them.  And Evie was even more excited to see Eli and B show up in her class to sing Christmas carols!  Who wouldn't love that??
6. HOLIDAY PARTIES

First we had Evie's class party on the Thursday before break.  The kids painted glass ornaments and ate lots of yummy food.  It was a good time with friends!

The next day was insane.  From 9am-12pm, we hosted Eli's class Christmas party at our house.  After Eli talked about our ornament traditions and I read a book, we had all the kids decorate gingerbread houses.  We did the same thing last year and it was such a huge success, we figured we'd do it again.  Honestly, I've done this so many times that now I have it down pat.  The teachers judged all the houses and then we had our awards ceremony.  Y'all know how we do it by now.  The kids LOVED hearing their names being announced, running down to give high fives and then getting a ribbon.  It was awesome!

Luckily, B took the day off and after Eli's party, I raced off to Elina's class party at her school at 1pm.  She had a gingerbread decorating party as well.  It was a fun time, but definitely shorter than Eli's (as Elina pointed out).

7. HOLIDAY GIFTS
So on top of all this insanity, the kids and I had been working on teacher and friend gifts for the past few weeks.  Evie made little perler bead bowls for everyone.

Eli made medium-sized perler bead bowls for teachers and cookies 'n cream bark for friends.

Elina made magnets (that I didn't even get pictures of!!)

FINALLY, after all this, we were rewarded with our highly anticipated Winter Break!  Hallelujah!  And you better believe that I was a complete couch potato on the first day of break!  Phew!
