For Chinese New Year, we decided to make a lion at home for our own little lion dance. I wrapped up a big box (for the head) and a small box (for the mouth area) with red wrapping paper and then the kids and I used cups, toilet paper rolls, crepe paper, and construction paper to decorate the rest of it. It actually came out well. Elina thought it was great fun to dance around with the lion head. And, of course, we all took our turns dancing as the lion....and it was hilarious!
My dad's dance was more fluid than the rest of us only because he was trying to show us the difference between the lion dance and the dragon dance. He said we were doing the spastic lion dance but if we wanted to do a dragon dance, it had to be more like his.

The rest of our Chinese New Year was filled with family time, red envelopes, and lots of Ah-Ma's yummy food.
Today (almost a week later) we attended the Asian Festival with A and had a great time! We saw the lion dance and the kids thought it was so cool. (That's the footage of the real lion dance above.) They even fed the lion money for good luck.
The kids did lots of Chinese New Year crafts and rode the barrel train (like they do every year). It was a long day out and Evie passed out on the way to the car. Poor thing!
